At least 17 killed, 50 injured in Karachi train collision

Pakistani officials say a train crash has killed 17 people in the southern port city of Karachi.

Karachi train collisionRailways official Nasir Nazeer says another 50 people were injured in the accident, which happened when one of the trains crashed into the back end of another on the city’s outskirts.

Dr Seemi Jamali says two women and a child are among those killed. She also says that five of the injured people are in critical condition.

Pakistan has one of the world’s worst rail infrastructures, and has often seen fatal accidents.

“So far we can confirm 11 people dead from the train accident, and we have received 50 injured,” Seemi Jamali, spokeswoman at Karachi’s Jinnah Hospital told, after one train rammed into the other while it was waiting at the city’s Jumma Goth railway station.
