India: Another shocker in UP, married woman gang-raped, hanged from tree
June 11, – In an incident similar to that of Badaun rape and murder case of two teenage sisters, two weeks back, the heinous crime was repeated on Wednesday where married woman was reportedly gangraped and hanged from tree in Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh.
The semi-nude body of the victim was found hanging with a saree from a tree in Ranipur area, Additional Superintendent of Police Sunil Kumar Singh said.
The dead body of the victim has been sent for the post mortem. Although a rape case has been registered by the family members of the victim against 5 men, but no arrests have been made yet by the UP police in connection with the case.
In a complaint to police, the family named five persons who they alleged had committed the crime, the ASP said. An FIR had been registered against Vijay, Raju, Onkar, Ramswarup and Naeem under section IPC 302 (murder), section 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) and section 376 (rape), Singh said.
Even the dust was yet to be settled in the Badaun rape case, the incident has once again raised the question on the chief minister Akhilesh Yadav led- ruling Samajwadi Party’s failure to take stringent actions on the perpetrators.
Sadly, rape cases in Uttar Pradesh are no longer a shock as the authorities remain unfazed and brazen and crime against women go on an on. For the SP government in the state, incidents of rapes continue to be treated with shameful trivialism.
What makes Uttar Pradesh stand out from other states in crimes against women is the total impunity and lack of fear for the law. No one seems safe and no place sacrosanct.
