Death toll climbs to 44 in Northern India train accident

May 27, – With the recovery of four more bodies, the death toll in the Delhi-Gorakhpur train accident has climbed to 44 today. “Eight more bodies have been recovered by the rescue teams since last night and 160 others have been injured,” District Magistrate Bharat Lal said.

Six bogies of the train were damaged in the accident which occurred at around 10.35 AM near Churaib Railway Station. Preliminary reports had said that fractured rails could have led to the accident.

The UP Home Department had yesterday said that 40 people are feared killed in the accident.
