President Hamid Karzai: US doesn’t treat Afghans as humans
Feb 05, – President Hamid Karzai says the US and its western allies have no respect for the lives of Afghan civilians and culture. “This whole 12 years was one of constant pleading with America to treat the lives of our civilians as lives of people,” Karzai said in an interview.
The Afghan president also blasted Washington’s funding to private security firms, terming them as militias that cause lawlessness, corruption and highway robbery.
“They then began systematically waging psychological warfare on our people, encouraging our money to go out of our country. What they did was create pockets of wealth and a vast countryside of deprivation and anger.”
President Karzai says he saw no good in the American presence in Afghanistan, further revealing the gap between Kabul and Washington.
As tension simmers between Kabul and Washington over a bilateral security pact, the Afghan president has now revealed a complete breakdown of trust between the two countries.
Karzai has said he saw no good in more than a decade-long American presence in Afghanistan, noting that the US-led NATO mission has failed to bring security.
Karzai has grown increasingly hostile towards the US government over the security agreement that would allow thousands of American troops to remain beyond the 2014 withdrawal deadline.
The Afghan president has delayed signing the pact despite repeated US warnings.
Karzai has warned that he will not allow continued foreign presence if it means more bombs and civilian killings.
Afghans also say American forces are responsible for the death of many civilians in their country.
Afghan political figures have also heaped scorn on US-led forces for committing unforgivable crimes against Afghan women and children since invading the country in 2001.
