Reports of gunfire at Los Angeles International Airport

Nov 01, – Los Angeles International Airport has been locked down amid report of gunshots. Aerial television footage showed people in what appeared to be transport security uniforms being treated for injuries. Emergency vehicles and heavily armed police are on the scene.

At least one shot was fired at Terminal 3, the federal authorities said. A traveler told the station that she heard gunfire as she was preparing to board a flight to Mexico. Virgin America and Virgin Australia are among the airlines that fly out of Terminal 3.

Video showed emergency vehicles outside one terminal. HRO media Los Angeles reported that police were responding to reports of a shooting at Terminal 3.

The airport said on its Twitter feed that an “incident” was underway and had begun at 12:30 p.m. ET. The airport said that it would provide more information.

Half an hour after the first reports of gunfire, flights were still landing, the station reported.

In 2002, an Egyptian national opened fired at the El Al ticket counter at LAX, killing two Israelis before he was shot dead. Authorities ruled it a terrorist incident, even though the shooter was not tied to a known group.
