Obama: U.S. ready for military action if Syria diplomacy fails

Sep 14, – President Barack Obama said Saturday he was willing to give a chance to diplomacy to help resolve the Syrian crisis, but warned the military option was still on the table.

Obama said Saturday he will ask the US Congress to authorize military action against Syria, lifting the threat of immediate strikes on President Bashar al-Assad's regime. Obama said he had decided he would go ahead and launch military action on Syria, but he believed it was important for American democracy to win the support of lawmakers.             AFP PHOTO/Jim WATSON“We need to see concrete actions to demonstrate that the Syrian President Bashar Al Assad is serious about giving up his chemical weapons,” Obama said in his weekly address. “And since this plan emerged only with a credible threat of US military action, we will maintain our military posture in the region to keep the pressure on the Assad regime.”
