Saudi Arabia has one of the highest accident rates in the region despite efforts by the local authorities to instill road discipline and ensure safety, especially outside the major cities in the vast kingdom.

According to local reports, road accidents make up the country’s principal cause of death in adult males aged between 16 and 36.

About one third of traffic accidents in the capital Riyadh are caused by drivers who jump red lights while almost 20 per cent of the mishaps on the roads are the result of illegal U-turns.
