Three Britons jailed in Dubai drugs case pardoned
July 21, Dubai – Three British men who were sentenced by a Dubai court to four years in prison for possession of drugs, have been pardoned.
Dubai police officials confirmed the three were some of the 625 prisoners in Dubai jails who were pardoned on the occasion of Ramadan. The official source said Dubai Police had already started the procedures for the immediate release of all pardoned inmates.
The trio, Grant Cameron, 25; Karl Williams, 26; and Suneet Jeerth, 25, all from London, were convicted in April of possessing more than one kilogram of synthetic cannabis known as Spice for consumption and sale. Their claims they were beaten and tortured by police were dismissed, after a police investigation found no evidence to support them.
The source said authorities would facilitate the men’s travel home after the completion of legal and administrative procedures.
The men were sentenced on April 29 by the presiding judge Ali Atiyyah Saad of Dubai Court of First Instance to four years in jail to be followed by deportation.
The three came to Dubai on visit visas and were arrested on July 10 last year, after police raided their hotel rooms and seized the quantity of spice, found in their car. The men denied they had planned to sell the drug and said they were subjected to beatings and electric
shocks by police in their hotel rooms and in the desert
