20,000 children die of hunger daily Tameem calls for immediate action to save “1.3 billion tonnes of food wasted every year”
June 5, AP – Tameem highlighted shocking figures of world hungry children, According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), every year 1.3 billion tonnes of food is wasted. This is equivalent to the same amount produced in the whole of sub-Saharan Africa. At the same time, 1 in every 7 people in the world go to bed hungry and more than 20,000 children under the age of 5 die daily from hunger.
Tameem said this year’s Theme Think.eat.save anti-food waste campaign, World Environment day event this year aim to reduce “foodprint by become more aware of the environmental impact of food waste and loss across the food supply chain” according to the UNEP
Tameem spoke about the Industrial Revolution started in the middle of the 19th century, carbon dioxide emissions in our atmosphere have increased steadily and dramatically, This increase in CO2 from roughly 280 parts per million (ppm) prior to the Industrial Revolution to about 392 ppm today is having a dramatic impact on our climate.
Tameem stressed challenging time for our environment. Time now really is running out and this fact can no longer be ignored.
The cause of climate change is manmade. And we must solve the problem by reducing our emissions by 50-85% globally by mid century. Breaking down the problem, this does not need to be an insurmountable task. Reducing our emissions just 2% per year would do it
The reasons cannot be more compelling for us to start immediate and concrete actions to save our planet and our future. And we must succeed on this sacred responsibility.
World Environment day is also a day for people from all walks of life to come together to ensure a cleaner, greener and brighter outlook for themselves and future generations.
The major problem facing the world is that in spite of the determined efforts in recent years to improve the environment, according to some experts the situation is actually getting worse rather than better.
The clear message on the occasion of World Environment Day, everyone has a duty to push for an anti-food waste and food loss campaign that encourages you to reduce your foodprint and hopefully the world leaders at Mongolia will take this forward. Turning things around will be difficult; it will need unity and strength of purpose, but it simply must be done.
