Portuguese football player grabs match referee kneed him in the face, knocked him down
Police immediately stormed the ground after a Portuguese player has been banned for life after kneeing a referee in the face and apparently breaking his nose.
The shocking incident took place just minutes into a game between the team Canelas 2010 – made up of Porto Ultras – and the team Rio Tinto in a fourth-tier regional district league.
The video footage shows Marco Goncalves lashing out at a rival player before being shown a straight red card by referee Jose Rodrigues.
The club Canelas 2010 player became angry after he was shown red card to being sent off, he reacted by grabbing the official and kneeing him in the face, knocking him to the ground with the force.
Security personnel immediately storm the football ground and taken the situation under control to prevent further violence as the player Goncalves is escorted from the ground and the referee is taken to an ambulance.
The player has since been banned for life, with Canelas president Bruno Canastro confirming the decision in a Facebook post.
“The club strongly condemns the thoughtless attitude of its player Marco Goncalves,” the statement read.
