Iraqi women burn face veils in joy after their village liberated from ISIS

Women celebrating as they removed their face veil, stomped on it and set it alight after her village was reportedly liberated from the Islamic State.

womenThe video footage of the moment released the woman, who is not identified, cheered and screamed as she removed her niqab as other women and children – also wearing gleaming smiles – looked on.

After one woman stomped on the face veil, another woman picks it up one by one many women sets it on fire with a lighter.

The video later shows the women smoking cigarettes as men danced nearby.

The unknown where village the video was filmed in, but it was later Tweeted out by the Kurdish news.

Women burning veils video came the same week that Iraqi forces backed by jets, drones and gunships attacked Mosul airport Thursday, a key step in a renewed offensive against jihadists defending their stronghold on the city’s west bank.

Forces including federal police and the interior ministry’s elite Rapid Response moved in convoys towards the disused airport, which lies on the southern approach to Mosul and is still held by the Islamic State group.

They fired a barrage of mortar fire while attack helicopters and other aircraft cleared the way for ground troops.

The US-led coalition has played a key role in supporting Iraqi forces with air strikes and advisers on the ground, and on Thursday US forces in armored vehicles were moving on the airport with Iraqi forces.
