In revenge for Aleppo Russian Ambassador to Turkey shot dead in Ankara

Mr Karlov Russian Ambassador to Turkey was making a speech at a photo exhibit in the capital sponsored by the embassy when he was shot in the back. Three other people were reportedly hurt.

russian ambassadorHe was shot dead after being attacked in an art gallery in the city, Russia’s foreign ministry has said.

Andrey Karlov represented Russia in Turkey since 2013.

His assailant has also been killed, according to local media citing police sources.

Witnesses were heard screaming in terror as they ran out of the art gallery, and the gunman was heard shouting slogans as he pointed his finger in the air and pointed his gun towards the fleeing crowd.

Photos and video published online by Turkish media showed Mr Karlov and a second person on the floor after being shot at the opening of a photography exhibition called “Russia in the Eyes of Turks”.

Three others were reportedly wounded as the shooting continued and people fled for their lives.

The Kremlin said Russian President Vladimir Putin was holding an emergency meeting in the wake of the assassination.

The shooting occurred just days before Russia was set to host a meeting on the crisis in Syria with Turkish and Iranian officials.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu was travelling to Moscow at the time of the shooting.

The gunman reportedly used police identification to enter Ankara’s Centre for Contemporary Arts.
