India: 17-year-old Bihar girl defies death

June 29, – A 17-year-old female teenager in Bihar defied death after she fell from the roof of a building under construction and landed on iron rods protruding from a cement pillar.

Lovely, a resident of Basantpur village in Saran district, had the pointed iron rods piercing through her abdomen and thigh after she fell over the cement pillar at night while going to sleep. The incident occurred while a large number of guests were present at home for a marriage ceremony.

The family members hurriedly cut the rods and rushed her to Ruban hospital in Patna where a team of doctors removed the iron rods after a 5-hour operation. The girl is now recovering fast, doctors said.

“We were able to save her but she showed rare courage and never showed any sign of panic. That was amazing,” Dr K.N. Sinha said Sunday. According to Dr Sinha, the patient’s condition was serious when she was brought to the hospital..

“Now she is fine but the credit for survival goes to her since on such occasions, majority of patients lose their hearts,” he added.

“We salute her iron will. Her courage prompted us to do whatever we should to save her at all costs,” hospital director Satyajit Kumar Singh said.
