The actress known for her steamy roles in Hindi films was handed court summons on Thursday by the police at her Mumbai home with orders to remain present in a court in Vadodara, 90km from here, on Saturday. Narendra Tiwari, the then president of Baroda Bar Association, had filed a complaint against Sherawat and the owners of J W Marriot Hotel, Mumbai, in January 2007 over her allegedly obscene dance performance on December 31, 2006 at a new year’s eve programme, seeking action under section 294 of Indian Penal Code.

According to Tiwari’s advocate Bhaskarrao Nilak, who filed an application for a non-bailable warrant against her on Saturday, she was issued summons twice earlier also on April 20 and May 7 but she has never turned up at the court.

Tiwari had dragged Sherawat to court after he watched her titillating show on a television channel in which she reportedly was seen unbuttoning a youth’s trousers in full public view.

Advocate I M Khan told Human rights observers that the controversial nymph had a few years ago moved Gujarat high court seeking that the case be quashed but her petition was dismissed, adding that she faced a similar case in Maharashtra.

The Vadodara court will hear Tiwari’s application seeking a non-bailable warrant against Sherawat on Monday when, sources, said, she was expected to leave for Thailand for a shoot for a film in which she plays a simple salwar-kameez-clad politician.

Sherawat will also be seen as an eligible bachelorette in a reality show to be launched next month.
